Great work (here and elsewhere), even if highly speculative, you've brought about a major change in my own thinking and which risks I'm focusing on. I've also yet to hear from anyone else the surprising argument that it would be very bad if humanity is destroyed (referencing your chapter on biases in existential risk, in Global Catastrophic Risks). Surprising in that nobody else seems to think this needs to be said, but I agree that the scope of the potential tragedy is so great it takes a special effort just to try and grasp it. How hard would each of us work if we had even a chance to prevent every casualty of WWII? Some of us may take a laissez-faire outlook to such an opportunity but many I think would not. Would we work a hundred times harder to prevent existential disasters? Most likely impossible, but rationally we should try.

If Gus has yet to get feedback or others are interested, a more in-depth work is available from the Singularity Institute's site (http://www.singinst.org/upload/artificial-intelligence-risk.pdf). Could be something more recent I'm not aware of though.

Hi Eliezer:
I enjoyed your post and your other work. You deserve credit for discovering that FAI is important, is difficult, and that many simple proposed solutions will likely fail. I'm interested in the solutions that you propose. I've read LOGI & Existential Risks (in Bostrom) which describe your ideas in a general manner. Do you have a more rigorous article that describes your proposed FAI solutions in detail? Also, when will you publish an academic book, the FAI eqivalent to Drexler's Nanosystems, so that people can comment on, criticize, and build on your ideas?
Thank you again for your thoughts.
